Charelle's Story
Charelle is a proud Yorta Yorta and Gunditjmara woman and mother.
Charelle (CJ) built her own home in regional Victoria.
CJ grew up moving in and out of homelessness shelters and public housing. She wanted to break the cycle of being homeless or living in public housing and show her son that he can do whatever he wants.
CJ is one of the first people in her family to buy a home. The day she walked into her home she told her son, 'we will never be homeless again'.
CJ remembers the experience of buying as really nerve-wracking and frustrating but also very exciting. CJ completed the process of buying without professional support.
CJ tells us that the community can do it, and just to give it a go.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work and live. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders both past, present and emerging. It always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.
